t has been our pleasure to serve as your class advisors for the past two
years. When we assumed this role we never imagined what a positive
experience it would be for both of us. We have watched you thrive and
we have watched you struggle, all the while knowing that each success
and hardship is critical toward your next step in life. The greatest
reward for educators is watching students translate the lessons of the
classroom into the necessary skills to succeed in life. The role of
advisor provides us the opportunity to watch this transition closely and
intimately. We are confident that you are prepared to move forward in
each of your respective lives. It is with great pride that we will
remember the lasting impression you have left as your legacy to
Minnechaug. You have made significant contributions that we will
remember fondly. We are most impressed with your hard work and
participation in "04" & "05" Flag Football games, 3 v 3 Basketball
Tournament, Kathleen Lynn LeClair Memorial, Battle of the Bands,
Patriots ticket fundraising. Peach Fest, Stepping - Up Day, Magazine
Drive, Prom, Graduation and the numerous activities you have taken
part in.

Thanks for the memories; we wish you the very best.

Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District

A Message from the Superintendent

To the Class of 2006,

I enjoy taking the time and opportunity to write in our school's yearbook each year. For a
moment I can pause and think about this important task and hopefully write something that is
pertinent for now and when you read it some time in the future.

This year's theme is short, but certainly important: "FOR THE RECORD". It implies that you
wish to make statements that clarify who you are, what you have become and what you have
accomplished here at Minnechaug. Allow me to share some statements that I feel reflect what I
believe should be stated "FOR THE RECORD ":

l.'TOR THE RECORD" - You have attended one of the best high schools in Western Massachusetts

and in fact the entire State.

2. "FOR THE RECORD"- The communities of Hampden and Wilbraham have invested a tremendous

amount of money each year to provide you with wonderful opportunities to learn and grow. In the

four years that you attended Minnechaug, the total district investment was more than $124,000,000.

3. "FOR THE RECORD" - The administration, staff and faculty that have nurtured, taught, coached,

and guided you have done so with great dedication, enthusiasm and commitment.

4. "FOR THE RECORD" - You attended a free public high school which is part of an educational

system reflective of a true democratic society. Every student was welcomed regardless of ability, race,

ethnicity, or religion. Few countries, if any in the world, can boast of that fact.

5. "FOR THE RECORD"- Your hard work and dedication resulted in the achievement of a meaningful

high school diploma that will continue to open doors for you throughout your life.

6. "FOR THE RECORD"- You left Minnechaug a better place because your actions and efforts were

of a high quality and standard.

7. "FOR THE RECORD"- Continued success, we will miss you.

Sincerely,
Paul C. Gagliarducci, Ed.D.

Minnechaug Regional High School

A Message from the Principal

In July, 2005, I became Principal of Minnechaug Regional High School. My first
day on the job, not being sure of what I was supposed to do, I reached for the 2005
Falcon Yearbook. It was the only significant decision I made that day and it turned
out to be a good one. Within a couple of hours, after leafing through nearly every
page, I had learned more about Minnechaug than I had from any "report" that I had
read that entire summer. I learned that Minnechaug is a community-oriented, spirited
school. I learned that our students are active, giving, talented, bright and fun-loving.

As your theme, "For the Record" suggests, yearbooks accurately capture the
fundamental nature of a graduating class. Without yearbooks, our historical memory
would be incomplete.

I suspect that you will discover, as I did, that the meaning and importance of
the Falcon Yearbook long after you have lost or discarded other artifacts from your
high school years such as report cards, MCAS scores, certificates and trophies, it is
likely that you will still have your high school yearbook. It will move with you from
place to place. It will be packed and unpacked. Years from now you will look through
it and laugh at the clothing and hairdos that were popular "back in 2006". You
might open it before a future class reunion to recall the names of former classmates.
It will help you remember old friends, favorite teachers, and long-forgotten activities.
It will evoke memories of a very special time in your life.

Treasure and cherish the yearbook you now hold. It will forever stand as a
record of the achievement, spirit and talent of the class of 2006.

Congratulations and best wishes in the years ahead.

FALL SPORTS

The 2005 Minnechaug football season was an experience young players dream about. A team that
every player wants to be a part of, and coaches that show so much passion about what they do. With
support from Coaches Dan Donovan, Mark Gallagher, Jason Fenlason, Matt Griffin, Bob Slattery,
Mike Orzech, and Keith Person, the 2005 Falcons finished a 9-1 regular season record with a Division
1 Super Bowl berth. This record was not handed to us; rather it was fought for and earned. Beginning
at Syracuse football camp as the first annual Orange Bowl Champions, we learned what it meant to be
a team. We played kids who were faster, stronger, and more talented, but they lacked a key essential
to success. Teamwork and heart, the two factors that lead the falcons to there 9-1 record. A powerful
Minnechaug defense was lead by seniors Tim Cook and Jake Glebocki, who allowed only 9 points per
game. Countering this defense was the offence lead by Steve Lipinski, Eddie Burnham, Evan O'Brien,
and Jimmy Gianfelice, which proved to be a threat to the most elite defenses in Western Mass.
Although the players made these things happen, it was the dedication of the Head Coach Dan
Donovan, which allowed us to give everything on the field. His long nights of reviewing film and
writing up practice scripts where returned with victories and players who cared. Along with Coach
Donovan were Seniors who for four years wanted nothing less than perfection. Seniors Jake Glebocki,
Steve Lipinski, Jimmy Gianfelice, Tim Cook, Shawn Derby, Francis Collins, Justin Daniel, and many
others who showed younger players what hard-work was and how it could be achieved. The Junior
Varsity Football team had a good season with a 5-4 record. Also, the Freshman, lead by Captains
Drew Schwendcnmann, Matt Spafford, and Mike Lynch, lead there team to a successful year with a 5-
4 record. The memories that fill the season are vast, from the comeback victories, to the up-downs on
the practice field, and the blood and tears shed together. The 2005 football season will never be

The Minnechaug Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders have kept
the crowd pumped up with their uplifting spirits and amazing half-
time routines, despite the occasional music malfunction from the
press box. The cheerleaders have a long year cheering for fall and
winter sports including football, and boys and girls basketball. Co-
Captains Lanelle Raccis, Kelley Dufault, and Jess Brehaut led the
varsity squad, while Co-Captains Amy Gilmartin, and Stephanie
Killian led the JV squad. The team ends their hard-working year with
the competition season, where they will compete against other
Western Mass. teams in hopes to win the Western Mass. title, and
other individual competitions. With the help and great support from
Varsity Coaches Leah Cameron, Gina Corsetti, and JV coach Sarah
Hulseberg, they have had a successful season. Go Falcons!

The Minnechaug Girls Soccer teams had a season to remember. The
Varsity team coached by Nundi Goncalves and Paul Lopes with Captains
Kristen Snyder, Andrea Berte, and Cate O'Donnell, had an outstanding
undefeated season. With a regular season record of 15-0-3 the girls
became the Champions of the Coombs Division and went into the Western
Mass. tournament as the number one seed. With a 1-0 defeat over
Westside the girls won the first Western Mass. title for girls soccer in
Minnechaug history. They had a great showing in the State Tournament
defeating Marlborough in the State semi finals to become runners up in the
championship to Braintree. The Adidas National Soccer Poll ranked
Minnechaug number five in the nation. The Junior Varsity coached by
Jennifer Genovevo with Captains Katie Villamaino and Colleen Dorsey had
a great season ending with a 14-1-2 record. The Freshman, coached by
Brian Mache finished with a 16-0 season. We can only hope the future of
girls soccer at Minnechaug to be as successful. Great job ladies!

There's no doubt about it. This was an amazing year for the
Varsity Boys' Soccer Team. Every win was a battle! We never let
ourselves get lazy, not once! We played hard and fast, but we
practiced even harder! And it paid off, big time! We won our first
Western Massachusetts Championship in the history of Minnechaug.
Led by Senior Co-Captains Joe Calabrese, Kyle Cubin, and Chris
Westlund, the team played with a lot of heart. The defensive
performances of Seniors Sam Boyd, Blake Willingham, and Junior
Colin O'Donnell greatly aided in the team's success. Coached by John
Ingalls and Karl Labadorf, the Falcons stayed consistant throughout
the year and finished with a record of 15-2-4. The Junior Varsity also
had a successful season under the direction of Coach Rich Burgess,
raking in a record of 11-2-4. The Freshmen team played hard all
season long with a final record of 9-7-1, coached by John Farrero.

The Distance Dynamos came out for another great season. The girls
and boys team both achieved their goals this season. The boys team,
led by Coach Osgood and Captains Alex Morris, George Fontaine,
Josh Read, and Kevin Muse, finished the season with a record of 3-6.
While this may not sound like the ideal record, the Falcons were
pleased considering they moved up a division because of their
previous success. The girls finished with the opposite record of 6-3,
and were under the wings of Coach Hill, and Captains Emily Kline,
Alicia Hummel, and Julia Mika. The girls team was proud of their 4th
place finish at Western Mass, and sent Carolyn Callaghan and Aurelie
Marcotte to the State Championships. The boys team had so much
competition within the school over who to send to Western Mass, they
had to have a run-off, which resulted with Freshman Tim McCullough
out on top. Great job Falcons!

The Girls' Varsity Field Hockey team had a history making year. Led
by Coach Sherri Dungan, and Assistant/Junior Varsity Coach Wendy Root,
and Captains Natalie Kinder and Kaeley Shepard, we worked hard all
season and it certainly paid off, winning the League Championship for
the first time in thirty years, along with the Division One Western Mass.
title for the first time in the teams' history. The team record was also a
success; we were 15-2-1. Not only was the team successful, but we also
had the top leading scorer in Western Massachusetts, Junior Paige Kelly.
The Junior Varsity team also had a great season with a record of 12-1-3,
coached by Wendy Root and led by Caroline Murphy, and Laura
Scyocurka as Captains. The JV team had a lot of newcomers to the sport
this fall, whose skills improved greatly over the season. The future of Field

The Minnechaug Gymnastics Team has had quite a successful season.
We placed fourth at the Western Mass Championship, with a score of
132.0. Under the guidance of head coach Cheryl Palm and Assistant
Coach Bree O'Neil, the team showed vast improvement after each meet
throughout the season. Our team scores improved from 1 17.85 in the
season opener to the highest score seen since 1993, a 132.1 at the last
regular season meet. This demonstrates the teams' immense dedication
and perseverance to improve and succeed. Team captains, Susan
McDiarmid and Becky Smith, both Seniors, constantly motivated us
to achieve greatness through their leadership and enthusiasm. Susan
and Becky, along with Erika Fosberg and Liz Hatch, also Seniors, have
shown great improvement over the years to constantly help raise the
teams' totals. Five spots on this year's team went to Freshmen. This
underclassmen talent, strength, and improvement show great promise
for next season.

way to victory after victory, and made us learn and grow after every

and at home, on Senior Night. He had 38 points in our 71-50 win against

Minnechaug player to break the 1000 point level. He did have alot a help

What a year! Under the capable coaching of Coaches Mandell
and Gullberg, we hit the water hard and fast, and came out on
top . It was noted that we didn't always take all the first place
wins, but we took enough seconds and thirds to prevail. That's
called depth! We could always count on Seniors Ashley Bacon
and Aurelie Marcotte to bring home a win and Senior Mike
Berthaume earned a State Title clocking an AU-American time of
5 1 .06 in the 1 00 butterfly. Mike also set a school record of 56.48
in the 100 backstroke placing seventh at this event at MIT. The

the Western Massachusetts Championship as well. Stephen Headley
successfully defended his State Title in the 55 meter at the Regis Lewis
Center in Boston and then went on to win the New England Title in
that event. Haley Convertino came in second at the State level in the
55 meters. As our group portaits on the next page show, we have huge
Indoor Track teams and we are going to be dominating the area for
years to come.

i he Minnechaug Wrestling Team handed out a lot of punishment this
season and took a little too. But that's what wrestling is all about. We
worked through shoulder injuries, turned ankles and every bruise the trainer
has ever seen. But it was worth it all! How can we say that? How about
these facts: Luke Mayotte wrapped up his Minnechaug wrestling career with
a Westren Mass. Division I Individual Championship at 215 pounds. After a
third place finish at the Western Mass. Individual Championships Doug
Craven went on to place fifth in the 135 pound class at the state level
chamionships held at Newton South High School. At 119 pounds, Ben
Rose placed fifth. Dave Lemoine, Luke Niederpruem, Nick Raimer and
Andrew Spirito qualified for alternate spots. Mike Sugermeyer earned his
first win as a Freshman at the state level at 103 pounds. What a wrestling
start! In all we qualified a total of nine wrestlers for the states, Mayotte with
a first, four with third place wins , and four with fifth place alternate spots.
Worth it? You bet!

HOW ABOUT THESE
FOR THE RECORD ?

These are big years for the Activity and Fine Arts

Departments at Minnechaug. Both the Key Club

and Bands grew to record size and as we have

already noted, the Marching Band

finally was back in full uniform!

o,

'nee again . . . The FALCON Yearbook Staff and
Advisors have tried to catch the special moments,
some serious, some silly, that tell the story of the
past year at Minnechaug. We do try to show
everyone at their best. But, we also try not to take
ourselves too seriously! We do take a few
"liberties", (particularly on this spread), but we
really do not intend to offend. If we have upset
anyone, we are sorry. Our hope is that you will
enjoy seeing all the pages of this yearbook as much
as we enjoyed putting them together!

W,

e couldn't put together or afford the FALCON
without the help of many people, groups, businesses,

and organizations. We are again indebted to the

parents and friends of the Class of 2006 that have

supplied us with the materials and funding for

the next few pages.

Once again, the FALCON Staff has, on these two
pages, picked our "relatively-random, probably
partial, basically biased, and totally unofficial"

CUTE-AS-A-BUTTON
Award Winners!

We hope you enjoy these pages as much as we
enjoyed putting them together for you.
